2021 Reading to Penzance
In 2021 we were once again confined to the UK due to COVID-19.
30 riders started in a very wet and windy Reading, destination Penzance.
Day 1 took us to just outside Bristol. Spirits remained high despite the near constant rain.
By the start of the next day, the rain had eased up and we were able to enjoy some iconic climbs such as Cheddar Gorge in relatively clement weather. We rolled into Exeter in time for some rest before the big day.
As always seems to be the case on One More City, Day 3 was the hardest, 155k with nearly 3,5000m of climbing. The weather was once again not in our favour. We were looking forward to a stunning, but challenging segment across Dartmoor but conditions had deteriorated to a point that some of the more remote segments of the route were no longer safe. We reluctantly cut off a loop, and were pleased to reach the hotel in Bodmin all safe and sound.
Day 4 took across stunning, but punchy sections of the Cornish coastline. The rolling hills were tough on tired legs but the views somewhat dulled the pain.
The route took us to Lands End, where we paused for the obligatory photo, before tackling the last section to Penzance. Another long day, but the reward was a celebratory dinner in Penzance. Another successful One More City!
